Coloratura sat on her bed. She picked up her book and began to read it, but she immediately got bored. She looked around her dorm in the private school her parents made her go to. Everybody's beds had their linen spreaded neatly on it, and their pillows nice and fluffy. None of them had crinkles on the sheets.
All of them, except for Coloratura. Coloratura didn't care what her things looked like. She didn't like being one hundred percent perfect. She didn't like being at a fancy school. She wanted to be herself and be footloose. She just wanted to sing and be herself.
The bell rang. Coloratura didn't move. She didn't want to go to class, everypony would tease her from her mane being imperfect, and from being a blank flank. The bell rang again. Coloratura relunctantly left her bed and walked to class.
Her hooves felt weak. She wanted to run away from the private school, but she couldn't. Her parents forced her to go here.
When Coloratura entered the classroom, some of the foals in the room made stifled laughs. She knew that they were laughing at her for being, well, late. She took her seat and began to cry. More laughter. Coloratura couldn't stand it. She pounded her hoof on her desk, and everyone in the room gasped.
"Coloratura, please go to the Principal's office. That is no way to behave" said the teacher.
"No," Coloratura said, "I won't".
The class's laughter became even louder.
"Coloratura, now," the teacher said, her voice becoming more stern, "or I will send you to detention".
Coloratura got out of her seat. She walked over to her teacher and said "Well, I didn't even want to go to this school in the first place! My parents made me go here without asking me my opinions. I don't care what you say, I don't care if I go into detention! I just want to follow my heart, I don't want to go to a private school to learn how to be prim and proper, I want to learn how to sing, and I don't care what you say!"
The class gasped. The teacher gasped, too. Then, the teacher took a deep breath.
"I understand. Please take this piece of paper to the principal. Then come back afterwards and tell me what she said"
The teacher handed Coloratura a piece of paper. Coloratura ran to the principal's office, nervous about what the paper said. When she arrived at the principal's office, she looked at the paper. It said "music program". Coloratura smiled, and then entered the door.
"Why, hello Coloratura," the principal said as she entered "what brings you here?"
"Miss Concentus told be to bring this paper to you" Coloratura said, smiling.
The principal, Miss Mirandus, took the paper and smiled, "Will you please sing for me?" She said.
Coloratura was so happy to hear the principal ask her to sing for her! Coloratura began to sing, and her voice sounded so amazing she couldn't believe it. She sang the song almost perfectly, and she thought it sounded even better than the original. She saw a flash of light, and them she heard Miss Mirandus gasp.
"Coloratura... Your singing.. Is amazing! But I know something even more amazing. Look!" The principal pointed to Coloratura's hindquarters. Coloratura looked. She had gotten her cutie mark!
"Oh Celestia! Its exactly how I imagined it to be! Even better! Oh, this is the best day of my life!" Coloratura was so happy she couldn't stop smiling! The principal smiled "And it is going to be even better soon. You are being transferred to another school called Woodland Music School. Its still a private school, but you will learn how to sing even better. They also have a summer camp that many other ponies go to, where you will get to meet many new friends. I hope you are happy."
Coloratura ran straight to Miss Mirandus and hugged her "Thank you" she said, and she walked back to her room, getting ready to pack her things
